About Us

Teesside Wind Band is a Middlesbrough based concert band which meets weekly, on a Tuesday from 7pm to 9pm at Marton Methodist Church (7 The Grove, Marton-in-Cleveland, Middlesbrough TS7 8AB [Map]).

We are made of up of local musicians who enjoy playing for fun, making new friends and performing regularly across Teesside and the wider area. (See the Concerts pages)

Membership: Due to a recent influx of players, we do not have much capacity for new players. However, we do have a need for more brass players, in particular - Trumpets, French Horns, Trombones or Tubas. So, if you play one of these instruments or other brass instrument and would like to join, please complete the form on the Contacts Us page

Please note: We still have capacity in the Flute and Clarinet choirs, which are 'sub-sets' of the main band.

The Flute Choir meets on the second Friday of each month and The Clarinet Choir meets on the fourth Friday of each month. Both sessions are from 7pm to 8.30pm at Marton Methodist Church, The Grove, Marton.

If you are of 'medium standard' on either of these instruments and feel you would like to join the appropriate choir, then please contact us using the form on the Contact Us page, making sure to specify which instrument you play and to what standard. We will then get back to you.

Conductor / Music Director - Jason Mitchel

Current positions are Head of Faculty at Outwood Academy Ormesby, Conductor to Teesside Wind Band and Musical Director to both Middlesbrough and Northallerton Gang Shows.

Previous work include: Acting Head of Music at Our Lady and St Bede Catholic Academy (Stockton), Director of Music at Ayresome Primary School & Music Hub (Middlesbrough), Woodwind and Ensemble Tutor at Tees Valley Music Service (Tees Valley), Musical Director at Plymouth University Musical Theatre Group (Plymouth), Teacher of Music at Notre Dame RC School for Girls (Plymouth) & Guest Conductor to several Orchestras in the North East, South West & London.

Chairman - Tenor Saxophone - Colin Helyer

Colin was one of the founder members of the band, and has been with it through thick and thin. He is delighted to see it now going from strength to strength, both in size and quality under the Conductorship of Jason.

Deputy Conductor - Rebecca Hudson (Beckha)

Beckha is always ready to step into the breach and conduct the band when either Jason or Ethan are unavailable.

When not conducting, is very happy playing either clarinet or saxophone.

Deputy Conductor - Ethan Skirving

Ethan is always ready to step into the breach and conduct the band when either Jason or Beckha are unavailable.

When not conducting is very happy playing the euphonium or beating the drums. He is the proud owner of a full set of timpani, but has not, as yet, played them with the band.

Secretary - Alto Saxophone - Holly Hunter

Holly, an excellent Alto Saxophonist, is always ready to reach for Soprano Saxophone and join the trumpeters when needed.

Woodwind: Oboe, Piccolo, Flute, B Flat Clarinet, Base Clarinet, Soprano Saxophone, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone.

Brass: Trumpet, Tenor Horn, French Horn, Trombone, Euphonium and Tuba
